Vancouver's Shoebox Project for Shelters drive kicks off TODAY! Woooo! Katr is the coordinator again this year and she and her awesome volunteers are ready to go for another year of shoebox love.
As much as I love to crack off about people donating old wheels of brie and used thongs to homeless people, shoebox season is always the most wonderful time of the year. Last year, thanks to our amazing donors, volunteers and sponsors, we delivered 1,108 beautiful, gift- and love-filled shoeboxes to 12 different shelters across the Lower Mainland. SUPER COOL.
There are a few new Vancouver drop-off locations, including the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown, so take a look and see where your closest one is. Or just come over to our house, 'cause we're a drop off spot too! Effie is waiting to bark in your face and sniff your bathing suit area!
This year for the first time, we're having a Shoebox Drop-Off Event at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on November 15! From 12pm to 6pm that day, you can:
- Drop off your completed shoebox
- Bring by shoebox items (enough for a full box or just a few things)
- Wrap and decorate a shoebox (wrapping and shoeboxes provided!)
- Write a card to include in your shoebox at our holiday card writing station
Check out the Facebook event listing for more info.
Trying to remember what makes a shoebox delightful? Katr created a helpful infographic about what to include in your shoebox (click to enbiggen)!
What NOT to include in your shoebox:
- Anything old
- Anything used
- Sized clothing
- Tinted foundation
- Mouthwash
- Used thongs
- Wheels of brie
