THE OLYMPICS ARE NOT OVER. Because I haven’t finished my last blog post about them. Let’s pretend that Sidney Crosby hasn’t scored the goal heard ‘round the world and that we’re still one gold medal away from having the most gold medals of any host country at the Winter Olympics and that my blue volunteer coat is still cool and that MukMuk is still tweeting. LET’S ALL PRETEND TOGETHER and look at my pictures.
On Friday I went out pavilion hopping in search pins for my lady and to have one last Olympic hurrah before my final volunteer shifts. Here is where I went:
BC Hydro PowerSmart Village
This “pavilion” is still open during the Paralympics, by the way, and it’s fine family fun. PLUS, if you find the right guy and show him that you’ve checked in there on Foursquare, then you get a cool pin!
You can also take photos of this 1920s washing machine:
And see an artist at work:
And visit the HOME OF THE FUTURE. They didn’t want me to give away its secrets, so no photos were allowed. But I can tell you it involves sexy thermostats and front-loading washers and ROBOTS WHO MASSAGE YOU.
Then I toddled off to the Canada Pavilion in LiveCity Downtown, because they said on Facebook that if volunteers showed up there and flashed their accreditation, they would get a pin! While in line, I met another pin nerd volunteer, Taev, who told me that she had already been to the Canada Pavilion and was back a second time.
“Why?” I asked her, “are they giving away hand jobs?”
“Uh…no. But I hear the Stanley Cup’s in there today.”
Now, I am a lesbian but I don’t give a rat’s ass about the Stanley Cup. HOWEVER, I knew that if I got my picture taken with it, my dad and brother and maybe my cousin Caro would totally think I was COOL. But first I took these photos, as a warm up.
I don’t know whose kid this is. But the bobsled is keen!
Screen predicting the future.
Me and the Paralympic Torch – one more thing Rick Mercer and I have in common!
The Olympic Torch, Joannie Rochette and an unidentified skeletoner.
THE MOST CANADIAN PHOTOGRAPH EVER TAKEN.
I took other pictures that day, and went a few other places but really, who cares? That one was the coolest.
It was a pretty crazy time, those Olympics (we can stop pretending now). Even pets got in on the act. And with the Paralympics starting up next Friday, there’s more fun to come!! But I’m hoping it won’t be quite as loud.
I’ve had a lot of people, locals and non-locals alike, ask if I’ll miss the Olympics. In the end, I think having the Olympics here was kind of like university – it was a wild, crazy, wonderful ride…and I’m so fucking glad it’s over. Also, I’ll be paying it off for most of my adult life, but hey – I made some really lovely new friends and you know…I’ll have the memories. And the Mountie’s phone number. And this picture I took from our balcony.
See you in Sochi, Olympic nerds!! Unless Sochi can’t pull it together in time, in which case we’ll probably have it here again! TRUE FACT!!
