I saw this piece about The Poppy Man on the Globe & Mail site this morning and the photos so reminded me of my Remembrance Day experience in Toronto two years back. I'm so sorry that I missed out on meeting Captain Arthur Hughes and buying a poppy downtown this year.
I can't embed the slideshow, but here's the shot that captured the spirit of this day perfectly for me:
During my moments of silence today, I'm remembering both my grandfathers' fine service to this country in WWII. I'm remembering my great-aunt Alice, who lost her brother in the war and carried his last letter to her in her purse for the rest of her life. I'm giving thanks to those men and women who fought and all those who still serve at home and abroad.
